One-Room Schoolhouse

Posted: March 1, 2022

Burr Oak residents, Roma and daughter, Laurie, have recently donated a one-room schoolhouse that will be moved to the Museum grounds.

Schoolhouse History

The schoolhouse was once called the Pot Hollow School, originally located north of Decorah, IA, on Wagon Road. It was built in 1915 and then moved to Burr Oak in 1960 to be used as additional classroom space for the Burr Oak School. In 1994, the building was restored and used as an artist’s studio.

The schoolhouse has been used for spelling bees for our annual Laura Days. Now we have the opportunity to move it and utilize it year-round for programs, field trips, and much more!

We need your help today to raise funds to build a foundation, move it to the Museum grounds, and then, touch up the one-room schoolhouse.
