Little Free Library Now Open at the Museum

We are excited to announce that the Little Free Library is now open at the Laura Ingalls Wilder Park & Museum! Located just outside the museum’s Visitor Center in the historic Burr Oak Bank building at 3608 236th Ave., Burr Oak, Iowa, the library offers books for readers of all ages.

This wonderful addition to our museum grounds was made possible thanks to the collaborative efforts of several community members and groups, including the Burr Oak United Methodist Church, Pastor Linda Thompson and the late Ernie Thompson, Jim Olson, and artist LuAnne Becker from Fort Atkinson. We are grateful for their dedication to supporting literacy and community engagement.

The Little Free Library organization, based in St. Paul, Minnesota, aims to be a catalyst for building community, inspiring readers, and expanding book access through a global network of volunteer-led libraries. Their vision is simple but powerful: a Little Free Library in every community and a book for every reader.

Stop by during your visit to the museum to browse the collection, borrow a book, or leave one of your own. It’s a perfect way for visitors of all ages to connect with the community and enjoy a love of reading while exploring Burr Oak’s rich history.
