Sofia Fernandez of Marion, Iowa, and Natalie Rich of Waukon, Iowa

Congratulations to Sofia Fernandez of Marion, Iowa, and Natalie Rich of Waukon, Iowa! These two outstanding young ladies tied with perfect scores in the annual Little Miss Laura contest, excelling in their essays, pioneer-era costumes, knowledge of Laura Ingalls Wilder, poise, and presentation.

The Little Miss Laura contest is a long-standing tradition at the Laura Ingalls Wilder Park & Museum, celebrating the life and legacy of Laura Ingalls Wilder in Burr Oak. Contestants are evaluated on their knowledge of Laura’s life, ability to articulate her story, and presentation skills, making this honor both meaningful and prestigious. Sofia and Natalie’s impressive scores reflect their dedication, creativity, and understanding of pioneer history.

As Little Miss Laura ambassadors, Sofia and Natalie will represent the museum throughout the year at parades, fundraisers, school programs, and community events, sharing Laura’s Burr Oak story with visitors of all ages. They will play a key role in helping the museum engage the community, educate students about local history, and inspire an appreciation for Laura Ingalls Wilder’s pioneering spirit.

This year, Sofia and Natalie join a proud legacy of young ambassadors who have carried forward the museum’s mission of preserving Burr Oak’s history. We are thrilled to see what the 2025–2026 season holds for these two remarkable girls, and we can’t wait to share their journey with visitors throughout the year.

Join us in congratulating Sofia and Natalie for their outstanding achievements and dedication to keeping Laura’s story alive!
