Museum Awarded Multiple Grants in 2025

Posted: April 5, 2025

The Winneshiek County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa, awarded the museum $8,000 for the restoration of the Burr Oak Mercantile. This money will be used in updating the plumbing and heating in the building. We are grateful for this help in the restoration project. The Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa impacts our region through grant making to nonprofits working to carry out effective and transformative projects and services.

We are also pleased to receive $500 from the MiEnergy Operation Round Up Grant Program. This will be used to add a handicapped accessible restroom to the mercantile. By rounding up their monthly electric bill up to the next dollar, MiEnergy members’ extra pennies are put into a trust fund for Operation Round Up and are distributed to local organizations.
