Laura’s teacher, William Reed, was a boarder at the hotel during the school terms. His suit, vest and shoes are pictured here. William Reed was 16 years old at the time he taught in Burr Oak.

William Reed moved on to teach in other schools in Iowa, South Dakota and Minnesota. He married at the age of 29. His wife’s clothes are pictured here. In addition to teaching, he also raised bees, sold sewing machines and organs, operated a pharmacy in Canton, MN and started the local telephone company in Canton, MN.
