The Kitchen

The kitchen is downstairs to the left. Here is where Caroline Ingalls was helping make meals for 20-25 people, 3 times a day. Displayed items include a butter churn, butter molds on the table and a whatnot shelf in the corner. You can see a view of the Ingalls’ room in the background.

The back door to the kitchen is at ground level. From here you can walk out to the park area and Silver Creek at the bottom of the hill. Pa and Laura fished for speckled trout in Silver Creek. At that time there was barn on the north side of the hotel. There was also a springhouse on the creek, where milk and butter were kept for the restaurant.

Displayed on and near the stove are sad irons, a spider (iron pot on 3 legs), cast iron tea kettle, pot scrubbers in the fry pan, a coal bucket, egg crate, barrel butter churn, ironing boards and a cross- cut saw.
