2012 Laura Days June 23-24

This year the Laura Days celebration will be held June 23-24. The theme is “School Days- Readin’, Ritin’, and Rthematic.” The theme honors the old Burr Oak school as former students will be attending an all school reunion on June 23.

The parade starts at 10:30 and will be immediately followed by a presentation in the big tent of Songs from Laura’s books performed by Brandi and Marc Janssen of Iowa City.

There will be a Pie Auction after the Janssens present followed by the announcement of the Little Miss Laura and Young Almanzo contest winners.

During the activities of the afternoon the bluegrass group, “Highway 52” will display their pickin’ and singin’ skills for those assembled.

Successful Laura Museum Fundraiser

The February Spaghetti Supper with the live Pie and Silent Auction was a HUGE success. On Feb. 17 over one hundred and fifty people enjoyed a delightful supper and then shared with others in bidding on a variety of items. The live pie auction every 15 minutes punctuated the evening with heightened excitment as the delicious looking pies, rolls with honey and kolaches were sold. Silent auction items provided successful bidders with everything from tickets to see Marty Stewart at “Light Up the Bluff” to overnight stays for a family of 4 at “Grand Harbor” resort and water park in Dubuque. So whether it was a night out with dinner and a movie, oil change, barn quilt or easter baskets top bidders when home with delightful items.

The Laura museum would like to thank all the supporters who came for the meal, bid of items and helped our efforts. Over $5,000 was generated from our wonderful supporters!
